The fair is a fantastic event offering students the opportunity to submit and share technology projects.  Ideally, each project will be evaluated twice, creating a need of a large number of volunteer judges.

Thank you for your interest and participation in the NAJSTF.  Please do not hesitate to contact Leora Wollner or Sue Loubser with any questions.

We request judges to disclose or not be affiliated with any of the schools or students participating.

All projects will be judged by the following:

Originality
Was the entry original, creative, and imaginative in content and implementation?

Clarity
Was the student presentation to the judge clear? (Nervousness will not count against the student)

Documentation
Did the student answer all of the form questions?  Are all copyrighted works cited?

Appropriateness
Was the technology/software used appropriately matched?

Design
Does the overall design support the project purpose?

Judges determine the placement of project winners - not the rubric or score used to aide in judging.  The judges decisions are final.

At the time of the judging, students will be required to:

  • Use the program or applications software to demonstrate their projects.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the software as it relates to the project.
  • Explain the various aspects of the creation of the project.
  • Defend their choice of software for the project.
  • Show their notebooks to the judges.
  • Answer judges' questions about the project.

Students should be prepared to explain and demonstrate the highlights of their project in no more than 10 minutes.

Judges will complete a Feedback card and hand to the student after judging.  The Feedback card should indicate any areas that need improvement or general praise for the project.

NOTE- COMPETITION RULE: First place medals are only awarded to projects which receive at least 80% of the total points for that category. If no project in a category receives at least 80% of the total points, the two projects with the highest scores will be declared tied for second place.
